After being hit with major backlash, actress Halle Berry has issued an apology to the LGBTQ community after she announced her intentions to play a transgender man in an upcoming film.
Berry was bashed after she took part in an interview, and she spoke about the role where she misgendered her character.
After being criticized for her comments, she announced that she is no longer taking the role.
Berry apologized by saying: “As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories.”
She added: “I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days, and I will continue to listen, educate, and learn from this mistake.”
LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD responded by: “Other powerful people should do the same. A good place to start is by watching @Disclosure_Doc to learn about trans representation in media.”
